What is Ancestral Healing? The basic premise of ancestral healing is simple: relating with the loving support of our ancestors in a safe, life-affirming way and working with them to heal ancestral wounds and traumas. When our ancestors are consciously tended to and cared for, we are able to more fully embody the profound gifts of our unique lineage which will support our path in life. When we enter into healthy relationships with the vibrant ones who came before us, we truly begin to know the core truths of who we are and where we came from. Outlined by Dr Foor there are 4 fundamental ideas associated with Ancestral healing. 1. Consciousness continues after death 2. Not all the dead are equally well. 3. The living and the dead can communicate. 4. The living and the dead can strongly affect one another (Dr. Foor). From this starting point, thru safe, guided visioning it is possible to re-establish a healthy connection to those who have gone before us and work with them to identify and begin the healing. This talk will cover the following topics. Who are the Ancestors? What is Ancestral Healing? What does the process of Ancestral Healing involve? Why is it important for self and community health and well-being? “We are not alone. We are privileged to carry in our blood and bone the wisdom of those who have gone before us. We carry their lives, even in the face of their deaths. In each of us there survives the lives of those who gave us life.” ~ Julia Cameron Stephen Cook MA (anthropology and cultural ecology) is an Ancestral Healing practitioner, artist, animist, forest bathing guide and, and forager. He spent much of his childhood exploring the wilder places of Great Britain, Germany, France, and Canada as well as both coasts of the United States. For more than three decades he has worked to share his love of the other-than-human world as an educator and guide. He combines ancestral skills with a deep knowledge of history, culture, art, and mindfulness to both deepen and broaden our connection with the other-than-human world and our ancestors.
